After the Kakhovka Dam in Ukraine was bombed, the flood surged down the Dnipro River, across the plains and engulfed homes and buildings in the region. This collage was inspired by film footage on Day 474 of the conflict. The still water between the buildings was like a bad magician’s mirror obscuring the detritus of torn lives and ruined engineering. I chose to use ‘everyday’ items to create this ‘re-building’ collage to connect with ‘normal’ civilian life. It made me think of the lives that inhabited this small stone house and whether this is one of the houses that was evacuated when the original township of (Old) Adaminaby in NSW was re-located to enable the construction of Lake Eucumbene. The life of the old township can only be recalled as memories by those people that once lived there.
